Key numbers
- Elfster ("The Secret Santa App") is #19 on the US iOS Shopping chart and up 13 places in the week to October 29, with ~66,644 weekly downloads (est.).
- Giftful sits at #9 on the same chart with ~95,759 weekly downloads.
- GoWish holds #9 on US Google Play Shopping (~51,616 a week), with a spiky daily curve typical of share-driven installs.
- In 2025, Elfster's US Shopping rank ran #56 (Nov 3) → #13 (Black Friday) → #9 (Dec 2): its peak landed four days after Black Friday.
- GoWish ran the opposite shape in 2025: #2–4 through November, fading to #16 by December 5. Wishlist building peaks before the node.

The gift cohort is climbing four weeks early
Black Friday coverage focuses on retailers, but some of the earliest consistent climbers on the US shopping charts this October aren't stores. They're gift infrastructure. In the seven days to October 29, 2026, while the retail giants held steady, the wishlist and gifting cohort moved:
| App | Chart (US) | Rank now | Move | Weekly downloads (est.) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Giftful – Wishlist & Registry | iOS Shopping | #9 | – | 95,759 |
| Elfster – The Secret Santa App | iOS Shopping | #19 | +13 | 66,644 |
| GoWish – Your Digital Wishlist | Google Play Shopping | #9 | –1 | 51,616 |
These apps don't sell anything themselves. They sit upstream of purchases, and their chart positions in late October are one of the clearest public signals of when gift season starts. This year, that's now.
What this means for your app: if your product touches gifting (wish lists, registries, gift cards or "gifts for X" verticals), your audience is forming its intent now, four weeks before the node. Seasonal keywords such as "gift list", "wishlist" and "secret santa" are worth testing before competition peaks; keyword installs can support the terms where your app already ranks in the top 250.
Three apps, three different peaks: the 2025 anatomy
"Gift apps" is not one calendar. We pulled each app's daily category rank from November 3 to December 5, 2025, and the shapes diverge sharply:
| App (2025, US) | Nov 3 | Black Friday (Nov 28) | After the node | Peak shape |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elfster (iOS Shopping) | #56 | #13 | #9 on Dec 2, still #19 on Dec 5 | peaks AFTER Black Friday |
| Giftful (its own category) | #8 | #2 | back to #10 by Dec 5 | peaks ON the node |
| GoWish (Google Play Shopping) | #3 | #8 | #16 by Dec 5 | peaks BEFORE Black Friday |
Elfster's curve is the sleeper story: a slow November climb (#56 to #30 by Nov 26), a Black Friday jump, and then a higher peak in early December as Secret Santa exchanges actually happened. From Nov 3 to Dec 2 it climbed 47 places. GoWish, the pure list-builder, did its work early and faded through December. Giftful, the deal-day companion, tracked the node itself.
What this means for your app: match your spend and metadata calendar to your usage shape. List-builders should front-load November; node-day companions peak with the stores; social-gifting apps own December 1–15, a window many competitors abandon right after Cyber Monday.
The December window most teams don't schedule
Many teams treat December 1 as the wind-down. The 2025 gift data says it's a second act. Elfster's best chart week of the season started the Monday after Black Friday, and its Dec 2 position (#9) beat its Black Friday position (#13). In the same week, the retail chart it competes in was cooling: Lowe's fell from #1 back to #33.
High gift intent with fading retail chart competition makes early December a strong window for gifting apps. It's also when a sudden traffic wave hits your product page hardest, so your rating needs to hold up. Plan ratings and reviews and in-app review prompts before the wave, not during it.
What this means for your app: budget a December 1–15 leg for anything gifting-adjacent, and fix conversion first: refreshed screenshots, holiday messaging and a clear first-run experience. ASOWorld's approach to improving organic conversions and user experience covers that checklist, and a seasonal and event marketing plan can line up all three gift-season windows in one calendar.
What to watch next (this tracker's next update)
- Elfster's November slope: in 2025 it took about three weeks to move from #56 to #30. It's already #19 on Oct 29, 2026, so an earlier and higher December peak is possible, along with tighter competition for "secret santa" and "gift exchange" terms.
- GoWish's spiky daily series: the source's daily estimates vary far more than its weekly total implies, which we treat as estimation noise. A smoother series in November would make its trend easier to read.
- Retailer wish-list features: whether big retailers' built-in wish lists slow standalone wishlist apps in December, or whether independents again carve out their own peak as they did in 2025.
FAQ
Why are wishlist apps climbing before Black Friday?
Because they come before purchases: lists are built in late October and November and shopped later. In 2025, GoWish held #2–4 on US Google Play Shopping through November on that pattern.
Which gift app peaked highest after Black Friday 2025?
Elfster: #9 on the US iOS Shopping chart on December 2, above its Black Friday position (#13), while retail apps were already declining.
Is Giftful's growth organic or seasonal?
Public data can't attribute installs. Its 2025 category rank peaked at #2 on Black Friday itself, and its 2026 position (#9 on iOS Shopping, ~95.8K weekly, est.) fits a seasonal business riding the same wave each Q4.
What are the key windows for gifting apps?
Three: list-building (now to Nov 20), node days (Nov 24–28) and the often-overlooked December 1–15 social-gifting window, where Secret Santa–type apps peaked in 2025.
Should gifting apps stop spending after Cyber Monday?
Not according to the 2025 curves. Elfster's best position came on December 2. Keep a December leg in the budget and make sure ratings and product page messaging are ready before that wave.
