Black Friday 2026 Early Signals: The Shopping Chart Shakeup Has Already Started

Key numbers

  • In the seven days to October 29, Lowe's climbed 27 places to #10 on the US iOS Shopping download chart, and 13 places to #10 on Google Play (FoxData estimates).
  • Old Navy +25 (iOS) / +24 (Google Play), Rakuten +19 (Google Play), Aeropostale +64 (iOS): legacy retail is moving four weeks before the node.
  • Gift apps are the quiet cohort: Elfster #19 on iOS Shopping (+13), Giftful #9 (95,759 weekly downloads), GoWish #9 on Google Play.
  • The head keyword "black friday" already reads 56 (US) / 45 (UK) / 44 (FR), while six tracked markets still sit at the index floor of 5.
  • In 2025 the first demand wave arrived in Singles' Day week, not Black Friday week: Temu's US downloads ran ~35% above baseline on Nov 8–9, and AliExpress's Google Play downloads peaked Nov 14–15.

The movers, four weeks out

The US Shopping free charts have stopped being quiet. In the week to October 29, 2026, the biggest gainers weren't the deal-native giants: Temu, Amazon and Walmart barely moved. They were the same brands that Black Friday itself rewarded last year.

App US iOS Shopping Weekly downloads (est.) US Google Play Shopping Weekly downloads (est.)
Lowe's #10 (+27) 92,207 #10 (+13) 42,677
Old Navy #13 (+25) 82,923 #18 (+24) 27,821
Rakuten – – #11 (+19) 37,279
Aeropostale #26 (+64) 55,419 – –
Macy's #8 (+4) 97,390 #21 (+7) 26,793
Kohl's – – #27 (+5) 20,196

Read this alongside last year's outcome. Lowe's went from #31 to #1 on the iOS Shopping chart on Black Friday 2025, with an estimated 4.8× download spike. A home-improvement retailer adding 27 chart places in late October looks like the same brand rehearsing the same play a month early. The installs are the easy part; turning them into December buyers depends on re-purchase and retention work that most teams skip.

What this means for your app: the pre-node window is when chart positions are cheapest to take and cheapest to lose. If category peers are already climbing, your metadata and creative updates should go live now. For a week-by-week schedule, see ASOWorld's Black Friday ASO timeline.

Gift apps move first, and 2025 shows why

The most interesting cohort in the current charts isn't retail. Elfster ("The Secret Santa App") is #19 on US iOS Shopping and climbing (+13), Giftful sits at #9 with ~95.8K weekly downloads, and GoWish holds #9 on Google Play. Gift and wishlist apps run ahead of the shopping calendar because their usage creates it: lists are made in late October, shared in November and shopped in December.

Last year's curves show three distinct shapes inside this cohort:

App (2025, US) Nov 3 Black Friday (Nov 28) After the node Shape
Elfster (iOS Shopping) #56 #13 #9 on Dec 2 peaks AFTER Black Friday
Giftful (its own category) #8 #2 eases by early Dec peaks ON the node
GoWish (Google Play Shopping) #3 #8 #16 by Dec 5 peaks BEFORE Black Friday

Same category, three calendars. Wishlist registries (GoWish) crest while lists are built; deal-day list checkers (Giftful) crest with the node; social-gifting loops (Elfster's Secret Santa draws) crest when offices and families actually exchange gifts in early December.

What this means for your app: if you operate in gifting, follow your usage shape, not the industry's Black Friday countdown. A Secret Santa app that concentrates spend on Nov 27 is days early for its own peak.

The first demand wave is 11.11, not 11.27

In 2025, the first seasonal spike in US shopping downloads wasn't about Black Friday at all. Temu's US iOS downloads reached ~66,500–66,700 a day on Nov 8–9, about 35% above its early-November baseline, and AliExpress's Google Play downloads peaked at ~37,100 on Nov 14–15, right after Singles' Day. Singles' Day (November 11) is now twelve days away, and cross-border marketplaces and Southeast Asian e-commerce platforms run 11.11 campaigns well beyond China.

For apps selling into markets with strong 11.11 exposure, this is the real starting gun. For US-only apps, treat Nov 8–15 as a rehearsal: the last relatively cheap traffic before the Black Friday auction heats up.

What this means for your app: whatever you plan to ship for Black Friday (metadata, creatives, campaigns), having it live before Nov 11 means the first wave tests it for you. Arriving on Nov 26 means debugging during the most expensive week of the year. ASOWorld's seasonal and event marketing program maps these waves into one campaign calendar.

What to watch next (this tracker's next update)

  1. Keyword second reading (around Nov 6): does "black friday" hold 55+ in the US, and do the six floor markets (DE/JP/KR/BR/CA/AU at 5) start lifting?
  2. The BNPL signal: Klarna (+5) and Afterpay (+5 on Google Play) are already climbing. In 2025 Klarna reached #14 on the iOS Shopping chart on Black Friday, and Apptopia reported that average daily active users of the top buy-now-pay-later apps grew 17% year over year across the 2025 holiday weekend.
  3. 11.11 week curves: whether Temu, AliExpress and SHEIN reproduce the 2025 first-wave shape, which would validate the template for the rest of the season.

FAQ

Is four weeks really "early" for Black Friday chart moves?

For deal-native giants, moves come later. For brand retailers and gift apps, 2025's winners were already positioning by late October. Lowe's 27-place jump in the week to Oct 29, 2026 is consistent with last year's pattern.

Which apps gained most in the current week?

Aeropostale (+64 on iOS), Lowe's (+27 iOS / +13 Google Play), Old Navy (+25 / +24) and Rakuten (+19 Google Play), all FoxData estimates for the seven days ending October 29, 2026.

When did shopping demand peak in 2025?

In waves: Nov 8–15 (Singles' Day week, deal apps), Nov 23–24 (UK, Germany and France pre-node peak) and Nov 27–28 (US retailers; Lowe's 4.8× baseline). Plan for waves, not a single day.

What does this mean for a non-shopping app?

Search behavior, ad competition and review dynamics all move on the 11.11 → Black Friday → Cyber Week sequence. Non-shopping apps usually find cheaper attention before the wave than during it.

How can a shopping app prepare for these waves?

Ship seasonal metadata and creatives before Nov 11, plan budget around each market's peak rather than Nov 27 alone, and keep a December leg for gifting traffic. ASOWorld's ecommerce app marketing program covers execution; this tracker keeps score on the data.
