What's New in iOS 26.2 Beta: AirPods Live Translation, Liquid Glass and More

Apple has rolled out iOS 26.2 Beta 1, a focused update that builds on the recent iOS 26.1 release by addressing user feedback and enhancing core features.

Seeded to developers on November 4, 2025, this beta promises smoother performance and targeted improvements across apps and system stability, setting the stage for a refined holiday-season experience.

Release Information

iOS 26.2 Beta 1, build 23C5027f, arrived just one day after the public launch of iOS 26.1 on November 3, 2025.

It includes a modem firmware update to version 1.20.02 for iPhone 17 series devices.

Currently available only to registered Apple developers through the Apple Developer Center or over-the-air updates in Settings, a public beta is expected soon—likely by mid-November, within 24-48 hours for testers.

The stable version is slated for early December 2025, potentially the week of December 15.

Compatibility remains unchanged, supporting iPhone 11 and later models.

This update coincides with betas for iPadOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, tvOS 26.2, HomePod OS 26.2, and visionOS 26.2, ensuring ecosystem-wide consistency.

Storage footprint is similar to iOS 26.1 at around 20 GB, with Apple Intelligence unchanged.

Key Updates

The beta introduces subtle yet meaningful enhancements, refining iOS 26's innovative elements like Liquid Glass and Apple Intelligence integrations. A new splash screen greets users in select apps, highlighting fresh tools.

AirPods Live Translation

Real-time conversation translation for AirPods now extends to the European Union, supporting languages including Chinese (Mandarin Simplified/Traditional), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

This rollout aligns with the December stable release, broadening accessibility for multilingual users beyond initial markets.

Liquid Glass Customization

A new Lock Screen slider lets users fine-tune translucency levels—from frosted glass (high intensity, reduced refraction) to fully transparent—for more personalized visual effects introduced in iOS 26.1.

This applies to clock colors and hints at potential system-wide expansion, including Settings or Home Screen edits, based on user feedback.

Reminders App Integration

Alarms and timers are now built directly into the Reminders app, making it easier to manage tasks without switching between apps.

A new "Urgent" toggle lets users schedule alarms alongside reminders, ensuring important alerts break through Focus modes or mute settings.

When an alarm goes off, it appears on the primary device with a dedicated Lock Screen interface and a "Complete" button, replacing the traditional snooze option.

Users can also manage global settings for alarms and urgent reminders directly within the app's Settings menu.

Apple News Redesign

The app now offers smoother navigation with dedicated tabs for Audio, Following, and a simplified Search (magnifying glass icon).

At the top, a new slider lets users quickly browse categories such as Sports, Puzzles, Business, and Food right from the Today view, making article discovery more intuitive and tailored to individual interests for a richer reading experience.

Apple Podcasts AI Features

AI tools now auto-generate episode chapters (marked as "automatically created") for easier navigation in transcripts and Now Playing views.

"Podcast Mentions" highlights referenced shows for following, while "From This Episode" consolidates shared links in a dedicated section below hosts/guests.

A brief splash screen introduces these updates the first time the app is launched.

Health and Sleep Tracking

Sleep Score categories update for accuracy based on health research, with "Very High" (96-100 points) replacing "Excellent" as the top tier.

Revised ranges: Very Low (0-40), Low (41-60), OK (61-80), High (81-95). Sleep Focus mode icon shifts to purple from green, syncing across devices.

Enhanced Safety Alerts

A new Notifications section introduces "Enhanced Alerts" for earthquakes, imminent threats, and improved delivery via optional location sharing with Apple.

This stands apart from government alerts, prioritizing timeliness and reliability.

Performance

Performance has been refined across UI rendering, memory management, and battery efficiency, resulting in smoother animations and fewer slowdowns during background tasks — particularly on older iPhone models.

Early reports suggest up to a 5% reduction in power consumption.

Initial Geekbench scores for the iPhone 17 Pro Max come in at 3,856 (single-core) and 9,767 (multi-core), closely aligning with results on iOS 26.1, though scores may improve further after system indexing completes.

Thermal performance remains stable, supported by vapor chamber cooling, though heat levels can vary slightly between devices.

While beta logging may cause minor battery fluctuations, no significant drain has been observed in early testing.

Bug Fixes

This update addresses a range of issues, including Liquid Glass display glitches, Focus Mode notification errors, Safari rendering bugs, Camera RAW capture leaks, and Home app syncing failures.

Additional patches resolve startup issues on iPhone 15 and 16 models, app icon display glitches, and smart home light control inconsistencies, contributing to overall system stability.

However, a few iOS 26.1 fixes appear to have regressed, such as lag when swiping widgets, ghosting effects on Control Center home gestures (especially on darker backgrounds), delays in App Library loading, and minor wallpaper vibrancy shifts—less severe but still noticeable.

CarPlay stability remains under active testing, building on improvements introduced in version 26.1.

On the security side, the update retains iOS 26.1's kernel and WebKit protections, with detailed disclosures expected once the stable release becomes available.

Editor's Comments

This beta feels like a thoughtful tune-up rather than an overhaul, with the biggest shift from iOS 26.1 being the deeper Liquid Glass slider that empowers user-driven customization and addresses widespread feedback on its implementation.

Expect Beta 2 around November 17-18 on a bi-weekly schedule initially, accelerating to weekly for an RC by late November and early December stable release—possibly alongside a quick 26.1.1 patch.

These refinements, especially AI-driven podcast tools and EU translation expansion, could solidify iOS's edge in seamless, intelligent media consumption, encouraging developers to lean into stable Apple Intelligence for richer ecosystem apps and a more intuitive daily flow for global users.
