Apple has unveiled the Release Candidate (RC) of iOS 18.3, marking the final testing phase before the public release.

This update brings several enhancements and bug fixes, with a focus on performance stability and notable feature adjustments, including default activation of Apple Intelligence.

Release Information

The iOS 18.3 RC is available for all devices compatible with iOS 18. It can be downloaded by developers and public beta testers through the Settings app under General > Software Update.

The update is substantial, requiring approximately 7.38 GB of installation space, and introduces a new build number, 22D60.

Unlike previous updates, this version does not include a modem firmware update for users transitioning from beta 3 to the RC.

Key Updates

Apple Intelligence Default Activation

Starting with iOS 18.3, Apple Intelligence is activated by default on compatible devices, streamlining the user experience compared to previous versions like iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, where manual activation was required.

For those who wish to customize their settings, Apple Intelligence can be turned off by navigating to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri, providing users with flexibility in managing their device's features.

Visual Intelligence Enhancements

iOS 18.3 introduces improvements to Visual Intelligence, particularly on the iPhone 16 series, which can now identify plants and animals. Additionally, users can add events to the Calendar directly from posters or flyers using Visual Intelligence.

Notification Summaries

The update refines notification summaries by using italicized text and glyphs for better distinction. However, summaries for news and entertainment apps are temporarily disabled due to ongoing adjustments.
