What’s New in iOS 18.3 Beta 2: Calculator Enhancements, Image Playground and More

Apple has released the second beta versions of iOS 18.3 to developers, continuing the testing phase that began with the first betas three weeks ago.

These updates are available for all devices compatible with iOS 18.

Release Information

iOS 18.3 beta 2 is available for download on all devices compatible with iOS 18. Developers can access it via the Settings app by navigating to General > Software Update.

The update size varies across devices, with a notable 96 MB download on the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The build number for this beta is 22D504d, and it includes a modem firmware update to version 1.4.3, enhancing connectivity for specific models like the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Key Updates of iOS 18.3 Beta 2

Calculator Enhancements

One of the standout features in this beta is an enhancement to the Calculator app.

Users can now perform repeated calculations by repeatedly pressing the equals button, a functionality previously unavailable in earlier versions of iOS 18.

Miscellaneous Features

The update also introduces minor refinements, such as improvements to the Image Playground and options for organizations using Mobile Device Management (MDM) to disable Satellite Communication services.

More Features

Apple Intelligence and Siri

While Apple Intelligence features remain unchanged in this beta, Apple has acknowledged ongoing work to improve notification summaries and other functionalities, with updates expected in future releases.

Robot Vacuum Support

The anticipated support for robot vacuums within HomeKit remains a key feature expected in iOS 18.3, although no significant changes were observed in the first beta.

Performance and Bug Fixes

Performance Improvements

Users report smoother performance with less lag during scrolling and app usage. The update appears stable, with no significant battery life changes observed immediately after installation.

Bug Fixes

Several issues have been addressed in this beta:

- Genmoji Personalization: Fixed a bug where personalized Genmoji might not generate correctly.

- HealthKit Authorizations:
Resolved issues where HealthKit authorizations did not persist.

- Third-Party Writing Tools:
Fixed an issue affecting third-party apps using writing tools API.\

Remaining Issues

Despite these fixes, some bugs persist, such as the home screen saturation issue, which remains unresolved in this beta version.

Editor's Comments

The second beta of iOS 18.3 continues to build on Apple's strategy of incremental updates, focusing on performance enhancements and bug fixes rather than introducing major new features.

The improvements in the Calculator app and ongoing work on notification summaries reflect Apple's commitment to refining user experience.

As development progresses, users can anticipate further refinements in subsequent betas and eventual public releases.
