What's New in iOS 18.2 Beta 1: Genmoji, ChatGPT Integration and More

Apple has launched iOS 18.2 beta 1, available exclusively for iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 series, focusing on the latest Apple intelligence features.

Release Information


The update, sized at 7.36 GB, comes with a new build number, 22C5109P, indicating several more betas are anticipated before the final release.

Apple plans to release iOS 18.1 on October 28, followed by the expected release of iOS 18.2 beta 2 in early November.

The final release of iOS 18.2 is anticipated in mid-December, with additional updates likely to follow thereafter.

Visual Intelligence


Exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, this feature allows users to learn about objects and places by tapping or holding the Camera Control button.

It includes restaurant reviews, event additions from posters, and dog breed identification, with options for Google search and ChatGPT guidance.

ChatGPT Integration


Siri now supports ChatGPT integration, enabling advanced responses and image generation.

This opt-in feature allows users to enhance their Siri experience by toggling off the "Ask Every Time" setting, ensuring seamless interaction with ChatGPT.

With this integration, Siri can now provide on-screen responses to queries such as "what's in this photo?" offering a more interactive and informative user experience.

Image Playground & Genmoji


iOS 18.2 brings Image Playground, allowing users to create stylized images using prompts and personal photos.

Integrated with Messages, it enhances user interaction with creative tools.

A feature within Notes that allows users to generate complementary images from sketches or context.

Expanded Language Support


Apple Intelligence now supports English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK, in addition to U.S. English, expanding its accessibility.

 

Enhanced User Experience Across Apps


Redesigned Mail App


The Mail app receives a significant update, allowing users to sort emails by categories such as Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions.

Apple Arcade


Apple Arcade now features a drop-down filter menu and the option to disable game previews.

Voice Memos


Voice Memos allow for multi-track layering, enhancing audio editing capabilities.

Volume Limit

You can know limit the maximum volume of audios (e,g,. songs, short videos and movies) in iOS 18.2.

*Note: calls and alarms will not be affected by Volume Limit.

Display Business Logos


Businesses can register to display logos in Mail and Phone apps, and customize for Tap to Pay.

EU - Deletion of Pre-installed Apps


In the European Union, users can now delete core apps such as the App Store, Safari, Messages, Camera, and Photos. This change provides greater flexibility and customization for EU users, allowing them to opt for third-party alternatives more freely.

EU - Default Apps Expansion


The Default Apps section in the EU offers more options for choosing non-Apple apps, aligning with regulatory requirements and user demands for more choice.

Canada - Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea notifications are now available in Canada for compatible Apple Watch users.

It involves repeated breathing interruptions during sleep, often increased by alcohol, respiratory illnesses, or certain medications.

The Apple Watch monitors these disturbances using its accelerometer, categorizing them as "Elevated" or "Not Elevated."

If "Elevated" disturbances are detected consistently over 30 days, the watch notifies the user of potential sleep apnea signs, recommending a doctor's consultation if undiagnosed.

Performance and Battery Life


While the update brings exciting features, performance and battery life may take a hit, typical for early beta releases.

Users have reported occasional restarts, especially when using the new features.
