Microsoft Launches AI-Powered Designer App on App Store and Google Play

Microsoft has officially launched its AI-powered Designer app on App Store and Google Play Store, making it available to users worldwide. This Canva-like application allows users to generate images and designs using text prompts, enabling the creation of stickers, greeting cards, invitations, collages, and more.

Features and Accessibility

Multilingual Support and Availability

The Designer app supports over 80 languages and is accessible as a free mobile app on iOS and Android, as well as a web app and a Windows application. Users can now access Designer with a personal Microsoft account.

Prompt Templates

Designer includes "prompt templates" to help users kickstart their creative projects. These templates feature various styles and descriptions that can be customized and shared, allowing for collaborative creativity. The redesigned homepage helps users jump right into their creative process.

Versatile Design Capabilities

Users can create a wide range of items, including:

- Stickers

- Emojis

- Clip Art

- Wallpapers

- Monograms

- Avatars

AI-Driven Image Editing

Designer also offers powerful image editing features. Users can upload selfies and choose from various styles, adding extra details to transform their photos. A forthcoming "replace background" feature will enable users to change image backgrounds using text prompts. Additional features like "Restyle image" and "Frame image" provide further customization options.

Integration with Microsoft Apps

Enhanced Workflow with Copilot

With the launch of the standalone Designer app, Microsoft is integrating the service into its Word and PowerPoint applications via Copilot. Users with a Copilot Pro subscription can create images and designs directly within their workflow. Soon, users will be able to generate banners in Word based on their document content.

Microsoft Photos Integration

Designer's generative AI editing and creation capabilities are also being integrated into Microsoft Photos, initially available to Windows Insiders. This allows users to edit photos, erase objects, remove backgrounds, auto crop, apply filters, and add text without leaving the Photos app. Similar capabilities will be rolled out to Microsoft Edge in the future.

Empowering Creativity

New Designer App Features

Microsoft continues to innovate with new features to enhance user creativity, including:

- Custom Stickers and Emojis: Create unique stickers and emojis from simple descriptions.

- Greeting Cards and Invitations: Generate personalized cards and invitations by describing your vision.

- Collages and Image Frames: Create collages and custom frames by selecting photos and adding descriptions.

Responsible AI Use

Microsoft is committed to responsible AI usage, implementing processes and safeguards to ensure ethical and safe experiences for users. This includes threat monitoring, abuse detection, and provenance technology to mitigate negative outcomes.
