Apple has started rolling out iOS 27.2, the first major point release for iPhones running iOS 27 — and the update that brings the iPhone Duo and the rest of the lineup back onto the same version of the operating system. After more than a month of developer and public beta testing, the release delivers a substantial feature drop: a smarter, more conversational Siri AI that now speaks five additional languages, FaceTime Dual Capture in group calls, four-stream Multiview sports on the iPhone, and the long-awaited return of Messages Suggestions.
The update also patches more than 160 security vulnerabilities. Here's everything that made it from beta to your iPhone — and the one headline feature that didn't.
From Beta 1 to Public Release: The Six-Week Road
The iOS 27.2 cycle began on September 16, when Apple seeded the first developer beta, headlined by expanded Siri AI language support. Four beta rounds and one release candidate later — the RC went out on October 19 — the final build is now live, roughly a month after iOS 27.0.1, the previous iPhone software update.
| iOS 27.2 testing milestone | Date |
|---|---|
| Developer beta 1 | September 16, 2026 |
| Developer beta 4 | October 12, 2026 |
| Release candidate | October 19, 2026 |
| Public release | October 26, 2026 |
One notable feature didn't survive to the final build: the redesigned Health app that Apple tested throughout the beta cycle has been held back and is now expected to ship in a later release this year.

Siri AI Gets a Memory — and Five New Languages
The centerpiece of iOS 27.2 is a significant upgrade to Siri AI. The assistant can now recall past conversations, so you can ask which restaurant Siri recommended last week and get an answer. It also draws on a much wider set of personal context, including photos attached to Messages, calendar event attendees and voicemails, while results pulled from Safari history and the Reading List have improved as well.
Apple rebuilt the privacy controls around the feature, too. The old App Access menu, which required excluding apps one by one, is replaced by a redesigned Excluded Apps screen for quickly choosing which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can reach. Responses now support granular text selection, so you can copy just the part of an answer you need.
The catch: Siri AI still requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later, and the feature remains unavailable in the EU and mainland China — even as iOS 27.2 adds support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish on top of English.
FaceTime Dual Capture Comes to Group Calls
Dual Capture, which streams footage from the front and rear cameras at the same time, now works in group FaceTime calls. On compatible iPhones running iOS 27, flipping the camera mid-call switches Dual Capture on automatically. The feature is limited to newer hardware: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.
Accessibility gets a boost as well, with a new option to add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
Multiview on iPhone, Apple TV Profiles and a Podcasts Shake-Up
Sports fans get arguably the most visible change. Multiview, previously a feature of the Apple TV set-top experience, now runs in the Apple TV app on iPhone, letting subscribers watch up to four live streams at once. Coverage includes Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the U.S. and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders during the MLB season.
The Apple TV app also gains proper user profiles, created in account settings with a name, a content rating and a child flag. Child profiles default to PG content, with finer age-rating controls available for shows and movies. In Podcasts, the Home tab's Up Next queue is replaced by separate New Episodes and Continue Playing sections, and the Games app adds context to friend suggestions plus recent games on players' profile pages.
Messages Suggestions Return, Plus Dozens of Small Touches
Messages Suggestions, which appeared during the iOS 27 beta period but was pulled before launch, is back. The feature surfaces tappable shortcuts inside a conversation based on context — tracking a package, adding a dinner invite to Calendar — and users choose which categories appear: Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Maps, and Flights and Packages.
Elsewhere, Shared Albums in Photos gain caption and comment editing, duplicate-photo protection and an expiry reminder so users can save important pictures. The Apple Music app adopts its black-and-white rebrand, dropping the classic red icon and the red highlights across the app. iPhone Duo owners get Apple Pencil USB-C support, an Edge Light for illuminating the face on video calls and a new Shortcuts automation that triggers when the phone is opened or closed. The Clock app shrinks the a.m./p.m. labels in the alarm list, and Call Context now reminds you of a contact's anniversary when you call — if you saved the date.
Privacy and Security: SynthID Labels, a New EU Ad Prompt, 160+ Fixes
iOS 27.2 introduces SynthID labeling for AI-generated and heavily edited imagery. Image Playground output and major Photos edits — including Extend, Reframe and large Clean Up jobs — carry an invisible watermark that can be verified with Google's SynthID Detector website, a notable step toward interoperable AI-content disclosure.
In the EU, App Tracking Transparency gains an alternative expanded prompt and re-prompting on an annual basis, mandatory for users in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. It gives EU users a more detailed consent flow — and advertisers a new measurement variable in five significant markets.
Rounding it out, the update patches more than 160 security vulnerabilities. Apple says none of them were actively exploited, but with a payload this size, updating promptly is an easy call.
📱 What iOS 27.2 Means for App Developers and Marketers
Five new Siri AI languages reopen the localization window for metadata and keywords in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, while the EU's expanded ATT prompt adds a new variable to your attribution baselines. A major iOS release also puts App Store algorithms on high alert — the first 72 hours carry outsized ranking weight. How to Get It — and What Comes Next
iOS 27.2 is available over the air now: open Settings, tap General, then Software Update. Testers who installed the release candidate will simply move up to the final build. Siri AI features require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and FaceTime Dual Capture is limited to the camera hardware listed above.
Looking ahead, attention shifts to iOS 27.3, whose first developer beta will likely surface in the coming weeks, and to the redesigned Health app, which Apple tested extensively during the 27.2 betas and is expected to release later this year.
