These components are expected to be tiny infrared cameras designed to detect surroundings rather than capture photos. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has supported the claim, stating that Apple plans a major hardware upgrade for AirPods Pro in 2026.
The cameras could allow the earbuds to understand depth and movement around the wearer, opening the door to new context-aware features.
Gesture Control and Vision Pro Integration
Extending Apple's spatial ecosystem
One expected use case is hand-gesture recognition. With cameras tracking movement, users could potentially control playback or system functions through gestures instead of touch or voice.
